When is the Best Time to Go to Phuket?
The climate in Phuket is tropical monsoonal. While it is warm all year long, April to May and September to October are the most extreme months. A southwest monsoon occurs from September to October, making the period the wettest. Tropical storms and typhoons rarely hit the island, unlike Hong Kong and the Philippines. Minor disruptions can be caused by heavy rains in September and October. But bad weather doesn’t usually occur for more than a few days at a time. It’s important to keep in mind that online weather forecasts are generally pessimistic – a whole week of storm icons doesn’t mean it will rain all day!
Best Time to Visit Phuket
From December to March is the best time to visit Phuket. This is the season for north-east monsoon rains. Thai mainland prevents Phuket from getting monsoon rain, leaving just cool breezes and clear blue skies. Typically, the temperature ranges between 24°C and 32°C (75°F to 89°F), and the humidity is low.
Hottest Time in Phuket
During April and May, Phuket experiences its hottest weather, with temperatures ranging from 27°C to 36°C (80°F to 95°F). During this time, the humidity can be high, which can make the days seem even hotter. A few thundery showers offer a little respite from the heat. The Thai New Year festival of Songkran takes place in mid-April, during which you’re apt to get splashed with cold water. July, August, and June are popular tourist months. During these times, Phuket usually has fine weather, and its most popular attractions remain largely uncrowded. The weather will generally be rainy and overcast with occasional downpours. This period sees temperatures ranging from 20°C to 33°C (70°F to 90°F).
Best Time to Visit Phang Nga Bay
Phang Nga is best to visit during the “cool” season, between December and January. During this time, there are generally calm seas, little rainfall, and lots of blue skies. Humidity levels are low, and temperatures are comfortable. It is also the peak season for tourists, but an outfitter with flexible schedules and a good understanding of the region can offer you a more enjoyable experience by avoiding the thickest crowds.
Best Time for Diving
Diving in Phuket is most enjoyable from November through April, with November and December regarded as the best. There is typically a great deal of visibility during this time of year. When the season advances, the sea gets warmer, and the amount of suspended particles increases, reducing visibility in the water. There are still a few diving opportunities in Racha Yai and Racha Noi during the low season, as the eastern coasts of these two islands are often protected and flat. Divers with more experience can usually handle the rough seas and bumpy rides, but less experienced divers can find it challenging.
